Blog post # 7 What have I learned

This semester I learned the importance of social media as a form of digital communication in this modern age. I learned it is important to try to be someone if you want to be successful in social media because if you just copy what everyone else is doing then why should someone be interested in what you have to say in a sea of thousands all trying to say the same thing. The someone could be you if you stick to what makes you interesting as long as you are sticking to your strength or the someone could be a character you made up, which is often called a persona. Although if you are trying to get a certain audience then you should try to tailor your content or at least your writing style to their tastes that way your social media content will be easier for them to consume in this age. Your content should be driven by a story you create because it is easiest to write about something you know and not something you know nothing about. The kind of stories I want to tell are they type of stories that entertain people in this modern age but also teach people important lessons which should be reasonable for me because I often end up doing silly things to see if I can get people to smile and enjoy themselves.

Greatest Achievement Blog# 6

So the biggest achievement I managed to have gotten at my business which would be my job at Value Village is getting a letter of recommendation from one of my super visors saying I went above and beyond the call of duty. It was a Tuesday which tend to busy during the summer and it was the fourth week of working at Value Village and my Supervisor for that day Shema came to me and she told me that the regional sales manager was coming in the next day and she needed CDC (Community Donation Centre) clean and tip top shape. So in between customers that were arriving every five minutes I would have to try my best to sweep the CDC room to make sure it was clean. After about two hours I finally managed to sweep all the build up of dust and dirt from the outside in the CDC room after all the interruptions. I thought I was finally finished but then I noticed the room had not been cleaned properly in a long time so it needed to be mopped. So I had asked my supervisor for a mop and I ended up mopping the room three times before the end up my shift which was at 9:00pm so by the end of my shift I was exhausted. Thankfully in the end it was worth it because the next time I worked Shema called to the manager’s office in which she added a letter of recommendation to my file and gave me a physical copy of the letter which is a great achievement especially since I do plan on trying to find a new place of employment this summer. Which goes to show putting in the extra work does pay off sometimes.

Amazon case study blog #4 post

Amazon is a business that has great interaction with it audience online because they know the importance of customer service and interaction. On their twitter account amazon is constantly interacting with its community and sharing stories about how it has made a positive difference in peoples’ lives such as with its recent campaign of #mysweetheart where Amazon shares stories about how Amazon and their love ones make a life better for each other. Yet more proof of the fact that Amazon is quite active is just this morning since I last checked they had announced a contest known as the #primepet in which you pet will be featured as the pet in the ad for Valentine’s Day. While on the official Facebook page of Amazon they are using similar marketing techniques but still posting different content that is more relevant to their Facebook fans but also using the page to help customers who are having issues with their store which is actually has positives and negatives. The positives of helping users on their Facebook page shows to their customers and potential customers that they do strive to help their customers even when they make mistakes. While on the negative side of this is it shows people that Amazon does in fact have issues. Amazon also uses LinkedIN in which they use to market themselves to potential employees by telling people who job openings there are and what Amazon is currently working on in the world. One example is Amazon is currently working on building biodomes in Seattle. Amazon also has links to their other pages on LinkedIN such as Amazon Business, Amazon Payments, and Selling Services on Amazon each having their own purpose and targeting a different aspect of their social media market.

Phoenix Olivier blog #2 Communication Styles

  1. Describe two types of audiences. These can be existing audiences you find through online research, or audiences you define out of personal interest or related to your existing

The two types of audiences I have chosen are people in my program who twenty years old and Community Donation Centre Ambassadors (CDC members). I have chosen my peers because I am they should be similar to me land I have chosen CDC members because that is where I work.

  1. Describe the unique characteristics of these audiences. What are some of the things that must be considered when communicating with these audiences?

People who are in my program and are twenty years old will most likely be still unsure of what they want to do with their life but have figured they would take a business course just in case it strikes their fancy or they heard it would be a useful thing to learn about. People who are twenty years old and in this program might different from myself so I shouldn’t assume this is their first business coarse but instead I should go with the idea that they have some experience with business courses meaning I shouldn’t write to them like they don’t know anything about what we are talking about. As for CDC members I should write to them in a somewhat relaxed matter since CDC members tend to be close group of individuals, CDC members also most likely feel like their supervisors don’t quite understand how difficult being CDC member can be. Something I should consider about CDC members is I shouldn’t assume there are only male CDC members and that it is possible that our supervisors or upper management may see how I am writing with my co-workers so I should consider keeping it professional.

  1. Find and list other examples of similar

Similar audiences to people who are new to college, near graduating high school students, and people who are new to universities. As for what audiences that are similar to CDC members is anyone in customer service such as youth in retail, youth in the fast food industry.

  1. Describe the specific communications styles that would be appropriate to each audience and why.

When talking to people who are fresh out of high school it would be important to talk use a communication style that doesn’t make them feel like they need to decide what they are going to do for the rest of their lives right away because they don’t and they probably already get a lot of pressure about that. As for when writing to the audience of youth working retail I should write to them as though some people may not treat them the best but that doesn’t mean they aren’t important in fact they are extremely important in this day and age.

  1. Compose a sample paragraph in the style and tone that would be appropriate to the audiences you’ve

Greetings my fellow peers I am writing to you all to remind you that this program is an important step in all our lives because business affects all of us regardless of where we end up. For we live in a society where the need for money is a fact of life and business classes help teach up how to better manage money in order to achieve what we want out of life. Although it may not seem like it now since often we may not have spendable income always we should still strive to learn what we can from this program because you never know when this information might be useful in the future. So hang in there my peers for this program is not for nothing.

Everyone starts somewhere and this is where we all often start at the bottom of the job latter as a position in retail but hey you made it. Although sometimes working in retail doesn’t feel worth it. Trust me it is because it’s better to make minimum wage rather than to get payed nothing at all but most importantly it is important to get experience for future work. In this current job market one of the most key things you can get is experience because having a degree in something is meaning less and less since everyone is getting degrees. Part of the reason is that degrees only really show you have the knowledge on how to do something but they don’t show that you actually can do it so hang in there even when it feels like people don’t appreciate you or understand what you’re going through and one day you will finally be where you want to be in life. Thanks to those retail jobs you had when you were younger so in a way I am saying you should be a little thankful because it will be worth it.
