COMM0014  Assignment #1, Blog # 7

Personal Reflection

Story telling is important to creating great digital content as it has the potential to change peoples’ lives, it gives the readers a window into the life of the story teller and make the story come alive in the readers mind.  My intention is to write compelling stories to inspire, motivate and entertain the reader using the active voice.

My content will be guided based on the topic which has to be planned from the wide angle view.  Doing this will ensure that I capture everything in the picture so that the reader can visualize the picture I am painting using the “show, do not tell” as mentioned on Week 7 note.  To accomplish this I will need to write with emotion and in my own voice keeping in mind that there are people at the end of the line that I need to appeal to and engage, to get them interested enough to seek out the next article or blog that I release should I take on blogging.

If I do decide that blogging is what I want to explore, I will choose to tell personal stories with the intention to positively influence lives and hopefully create legendary content that will stay long after I am gone.  I will start out by telling stories of my life so that perhaps I can get an understanding of events and why it happened, how I got where I am today and where I am going or intend to go. This will all be done using the Inverted Pyramid Writing as a source of guidance.

COMM0014  Assignment #1, Blog # 4: Business to Customer (B2C) Case Study

I am using Shein Clothing Brand for the B2C study as I feel that they are very effective in their online marketing, and I speak specifically to their Facebook advertising.  With 30 million followers on Facebook, their tag line is “offers endless finds at affordable prices”.

They continue to build their brand with their constant online presence, targeted advertising on Facebook and with the “personal” relationship once you make a purchase.  With 9 posts in the last 2 weeks, they are posting their sales, pictures of the items and making the posts interactive as they engage the audience by asking questions as we have learnt in this course.

I think that their marketing approach is working as who doesn’t love “affordable prices” with endless finds all in one place without leaving the comfort of home.  Their return policy is seamless, you have 45 days to return an item at no cost(once), they provide the shipping label and make a smooth process.

They continue to build the relationship by sending you daily emails with the attractive discounts and special codes for further discounts to ensure that they stay visible in your inbox which speaks to the quality of their interaction by pricing and targeting based on your last purchase to generate repeat business.

COM0014 – Blog # 2 – Storytelling and Communication Styles

Passive, Active, First person, Third person, as an avid reader, I have never given thought to the various communication styles that is so widely used. Having experienced examples of the various styles in this weeks’ learning, I would have to say that my preference is communicating in the First person for the friendliness that it portrays. The Active voice definitely adds some enthusiasm to the story.

In my daily writing, I have always taken much time and effort to ensure that the grammar, spelling and punctuation is correct however in these days of texting and using so many short forms I feel that we may loose the language skills however, the argument could be made that the English language has evolved from Shakespearian time to current time as the English language will continue going through its own evolution.

As we continue to evolve and adapt with the new communication styles, interact with the diverse world we live in and adapt words from different cultures that succinctly describes situations for example chutzpah (Yiddish*) is more expressive instead of the word nerve in the phrase “you have some nerve” .

What are you? A first person storyteller or a third person, can you recognise a passive voice vs an active voice?

COM0014 – Blog Post #1 – What I Did on My Vacation

Hello all and welcome to my blog! Today I would like to share with you the highlights of my last vacation which was in May.  My family and I went to Guyana which is a country located on the east side of South America. Guyana is also our country of origin and we stayed there for two weeks. We enjoy vacationing in Guyana as tourists as we are finally able to take the time to enjoy the country, as we never did when we lived there.

Guyana is the perfect country for nature lovers, there’s lots of hiking and adventuring in the rain forest, bird watching and much more to be had.  The highlight of my vacation was our trip to Kaieteur National Park and Kaieteur Falls which is the largest single drop waterfall in the world.  (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaieteur_Falls)

Getting to Kaieteur was an adventure by itself as the park has an airstrip which can only accommodate small planes.  Once there, guides takes you on a tour of the Park and introduces you to the flora and  fauna found there. As you venture deeper into the Amazon rainforest, with each stop/look-out point, you are met with a breath-taking and up close and personal view of the falls. The roar of the falls is nothing short of breath taking and the water itself has a certain beauty you just can’t see in any other part of the world.  Imagine the refreshing cooling effects of the spray on a 31 degree Celsius day!
