COM0014 – Blog 3: The Target Audience of Percy Jackson: The Book Series

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a famous book series that is read by all ages. The series has 6 books in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series, but there are sequel series and even more connected books.

The books are about Percy Jackson’s life dealing with Greek mythology in the modern world. In this series, you get to learn about Greek mythology at the same time as Percy, but with different stories that have a new twist to it.

The target audience can be sorted into demographic and psychographics. Demographics are who is the book for. Like their age, gender, ethic, religion, education, and family type. Psychographics are what the person is like. Like their likes, living class, and what they do.

Target Audience Of The Book

The Target audience of Percy Jackson and the Olympians is 9- to 14-years-old. The book has this age range because it is about the age of Percy in the books. During the book series, Percy starts at 12 years old and grows up one year in each book to 15 years old. So, the age range for each book is the same age as Percy so the reader can relate to Percy.

The target audience is children. Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a children book series. This book series does not target any specific children. It is for any child, no matter their gender, ethics, religion, or family type.

Education For A Book

This book does have an educational requirement to read it. The requirement isn’t high since it is for 9-year-old children, but they must know how to read a book to enjoy it. Of course, anyone could enjoy the book if they had someone else to read it to them, so the educational requirement isn’t that much of a big deal.

More About The Children

While the age range of this series is 9- to 14-year-olds, not all children are the target audience. Since it is a book, it has a target audience of book readers. It doesn’t matter if they are children who enjoy a book sometimes or read books 5 times a day, if they read books, they are the target audience.

This can even be boiled down even more. The genre of the books are fantasy, action, and adventure. So, if a child likes to read fantasy, action, adventure or a mixture of all three genres, they are a part of the target audience. More children who are a part of the target audience is children who are interest or enjoy Greek mythology, since the books has a lot of Greek mythology in them.

Price

The children in this book’s target audience have families in the middle to high class. Since books cost money to buy, the people who could afford the books would be the target audience. The books aren’t that expensive either, since the target audience is children, who don’t have a lot of money to buy books themselves.

Conclusion

The demographics of the target audience of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians are 9- to 14-year-olds who can read books. The psychographics of this book is children, with families who can afford books, who like to read fantasy, action, and adventure books or books about Greek mythology.

But that is not to say that the book isn’t for everyone. While above is the target audience, people of all ages can like the book. I’m not in the target audience anymore, but I still enjoy this series. I loved this series ever seen I have read it. Have you ever read Percy Jackson and the Olympians? If you did, did you like it or dislike it? If you haven’t, does the book sound interesting?
